Surat Airport new terminal work almost completes; PM may inaugurate it on Dec 17

Surat: The government had approved Rs. 353 crore for redevelopment of Surat Airport in year 2022. Of this sum Rs. 163 crore are spent for expansion of the new terminal on both sides of the existing terminal building. Most of the work is completed on this project.
The inauguration will take place on December 17 when Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi will visit the city to also inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) in the city. Thanks to expansion of terminal, the present 17.5 lakh passenger capacity of this airport will increase to 26 lakh.
According to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), the upgraded terminal of Surat airport will be in accordance to GRIHA 4-star. It will be capable of handling 1800 passengers at a time during peak hours. It will have 20 check-in counters, 5 aerobridges, 13 immigration counters, 5 baggage carousels.
The Prime Minister had laid foundation stone in 2019 for terminal building expansion, apron and parallel taxi track etc Rs. 353 crore projects, of which the terminal building is completed. The new airport apron work is going on at a cost of Rs. 72 crore. DeshGujarat
