ACB Gujarat nabs CGST Inspector at Ambawadi GST office in Ahmedabad for taking bribe

Gandhinagar: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has nabbed a Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) Inspector in bribe case. Accused CGST Inspector Arvind Kumar Lakhendra Singh is class-2 officer of government, working in Rakhial Division-1 in Ahmedabad South. He is nabbed for demanding and receiving Rs. 1.50 lakh bribe at GST Bhavan in Ambawadi area of Ahmedabad.
According to ACB note, a complainant in this case works at a tax consultant. His client had received two notices in the month of August this year for “not paying service tax in year 2015-16 and 2016-17”. On behalf of a client, a complainant tax consultant had appeared in hearing at CGST office and presented a written reply that his client had to pay no tax.
However, the accused CGST Inspector insisted that Rs. 15 lakh tax had to be paid and if not, then at the rate of 10 percent of total payable sum, Rs. 1.50 lakh bribe would need to be paid.
As a complaint was not willing to pay the bribe, he contacted ACB, following which a trap was arranged and the accused CGST officer was nabbed after he received bribe money. The accused is detained.
