Ahmedabad: The city will be hosting the finale of the ICC Cricket World Cup at Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera on Sunday. The clash between the Indian and Australian teams will be witnessed by around 1.25 lakh people in the world’s largest cricket stadium, and for this, Ahmedabad Police is ready with security arrangements, deploying around 6,000 police personnel in the city.
Today, the Commissioner of Ahmedabad Police, G. S. Malik, addressed the media regarding the police arrangements and said, Tomorrow, on November 19th, the World Cup Final is going to be played between India and Australia, and for that, Ahmedabad Police has done a full elaborated bandobast. Around 3000 police personnel will be deployed inside the stadium, including 1 RAF (Rapid Action Force) company.”
“Other than that, for traffic management, pilot escort, hotel security where the teams are staying, and the security of dignitaries arriving for the match, a total of over 6,000 police personnel will be deployed. Apart from this, two NDRF teams, two Chetak Commando teams, and 10 teams of the Bomb Disposal Squad would be deployed,” Malik further said.
The NDRF teams are equipped to handle chemical, biological, as well as nuclear threats, the top cop added.
Malik also confirmed that “proper arrangements have been made for the security of several VVIPs, such as the Indian Prime Minister, Deputy PM of Australia, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister of Assam, and other such dignitaries that are arriving for the match.”
“I would also like to make a request from people to make maximum use of the metro for commuting on the day of the match. The metro would be operational until 1 a.m.,” said Malik, adding that aside from overall security, traffic is also a challenge as more than 1,00,000 spectators are expected to reach the venue. “We have made improvements in the arrangements based on previous experiences,” he added.
On black marketing of tickets ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup Final, Malik said, “As soon as the police get information on this, they do an investigation… They are working proactively on this. Until now, we have not caught any duplicate tickets. If such a thing happens during the match, the police will do the investigation as per the law.” DeshGujarat
