November 20, 2023
Gandhinagar: According to a news report in a local daily, the Government of Gujarat has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the land irregularities pertaining to Sabarmati Harijan Ashram Trust in Ranip and Vadaj areas. The land worth crores of Rupees was sold for unrealistically low value. In radar of this probe is former Chief Minister and current Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel’s son in law Jayesh Patel’s trust. According to this report, retirned IAS Vinay Vyasa and Charity Commissioner YS Shukla are handed over this probe.
Selling of a piece of land of the Sabarmati Harijan Ashram by the Trustees of the Ashram had first hit headlines in year 2013 when Anandiben was Revenue Minister. The then Law Minister had stated that the particular land was sold with the approval of the Charity Commissioner so the question of taking action against anyone does not arise.
The issue had again hit headline in year 2018 also.
