Chotila to have a funicular train

Chotila: Pilgrim place Chotila where Goddess Chamunda’s temple is located atop the hill will have funicular ride service. Funicular is a small train type service which is used as an alternative to steps. The project is likely to be completed in a year.

Funicular will replace the old steps on the mountain. It will run using a heavy electric motor. Pilgrims will need to go through 25 steps after which the ride will begin. The ride will go upto the Batuk Bhairav mandir on the hill, from where pilgrims will need to go through another 20 steps to reach Chamundra mandir. Thus pilgrims will need to go through 45 steps only.

Such funicular rides are at present functional at Saptashrungi mandir near Nashik and Jivdaya mandir near Virar in Maharashtra. In Gujarat, this will be the first project to have a funicular. DeshGujarat
