Veteran Photo Journalist Zaverilal Mehta cremated

Ahmedabad: Veteran photo journalist, Padma Shri Zaverilal Mehta was cremated today at electric crematorium in Paldi based Vadilal Sarabhai smashan gruh. His funeral and funeral procession was joined by large number of press photographers, journalists and dignitaries from various walks of life.

Zaverilal(96) passed away two days ago due to age-related issues at his daughter Kanan Joshi’s residence in Sharda Society. His dead body was kept in cold-storage as his son was on way to Ahmedabad from Saudi Arabia.

Large number of dignitaries from media fraternity including Gujarat Samachar’s Shreyansh Shah, Nirmam Shreyansh Shah, Devendra Patel, Shital Devendra Patel, Bhaven Kachchi, Kalpit Bhachech, Dakshesh Pathak, Japan Pathak, Suresh Mistry, Vishala’s founder Surendra Patel, artist Amit Ambalal among others gathered at Zaverilal’s funeral procession.

Zaverilal’s last rites were performed by his son Manan Maheta. More dignitaries from journalism fraternity, humorist Ashok Dave, historian Rizwan Kadri, columnist Sudarshan Upadhyay, Chief Reporter Mukund Pandya, U.S. based journalist Harshad Patel, photo journalists Sam Panthky, Manish Mistry, Shailesh Solanki among others, number of other reporters and journalists were present at crematorium for final good-by to a towering photo journalist whose photo journalism continued through five decades.

The State government had deputed a protocol officer as Zaverilal was Padma awardee. Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi had tweeted condolence on Zaverilal’s demise. DeshGujarat
