Ahmedabad: Assistant Immigration Officer of Ahmedabad airport has filed a complaint against one Gitaben Maheshkumar Patel(51), resident of Kadi in Mahesana district for having a duplicate Portuguese passport with name of Rita Menezes.
According to a complaint, Gitaben used duplicate Portuguese through which she got India’s e-tourist visa and entered India via Delhi in November 2021 to return to London in December 2021. The accused woman on 2nd December this week was found at international airport terminal – 2 at counter – 11 and caught during immigration checking.
According to a complaint filed in Airport Police, on 2nd December, Gitaben arrived from Garwick, London by Air India flight AI172 using her Indian passport ad approached for immigration clearance at the counter manned by Ms Ashmita Parmar.
According to Immigration officer, during the immigration clearance, it was found from the databse that Gitaben had fraudulently obtained Portuguese passport using the identity of another Indian with the name of Rita Menezes. Further, it was also learnt that the date of birth, and father and mother’s name of Rita Menezs was used by her in obtaining the above mentioned Portugal passport.
As per the data, Gitaben departed India on 23 August 2015 and arrived India on 2nd December 2023 using the same Indian passport. However in 2021, she entered India via Delhi on 17-11-2021 and departed on 13-12-2021 via Delhi using the fraudulently obtained Portugal passport under the strength of E tourist visa in the name of Rita Menezes.
However during preliminary enquiry she denied having any Portugal passport and stated that she has been issued only Indian passport. Besides, the photographs on Indian passport and Portugal passport appear to be similar as supported by data.
The passenger was accompanied by her husband Maheshkumar Ranchhodbhai Patel. There is a similarity in the previous case of Tushal Menezes, handed over to the SVPI police station on 16 February 2023.
Preliminary enquiry indicated her to be holding fraudulently obtained foreign (Portugal) passport and thus she was handed over to Airport police station for further investigation and legal actions.
