Two die due to inhalation of toxic gas in Vapi

Vapi: Two migrant workers lost their lives due to inhalation of toxic gas at an industrial unit in in Vapi GIDC Third Phase on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 11:30 am on Tuesdaywhen the workers, Gorelal Mandal (41) and Dilip Tanti (37), both hailing from Chhiri area in Vapi and natives of Bihar, were transporting a chemical container on a trolley. The container fell, causing the chemical to spread on the floor and leading to the formation of a toxic gas. The workers succumbed to asphyxiation after being shifted to Haria hospital.

Another worker who fell ill due to the toxic gas is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.  The case has been registered as an accidental death by the Vapi Udyog Nagar police station.

The district collector, Kshipra Agre, announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for each of the deceased workers’ families and issued a closure notice to Sarna Chemicals Pvt Ltd, where the incident took place. An inquiry has also been ordered , involving the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) and Director of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH).

In another development, the death toll has risen to 9 people in the fire and blast that occurred at Aether Industries Limited in Sachin GIDC of Surat on November 29. In the last two days, two workers who suffered severe burns succumbed to their injuries during treatment. One of these deceased was a factory worker, and the other used to work in a nearby factory but had sustained injuries in the cleanup process post-fire. DeshGujarat
