22-year-old undertrial dies in Sabarmati Jail; Family alleges murder

Sabarmati: A 22-year-old man, an undertrial prisoner facing murder charges at Sabarmati Central Jail, was found dead on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased individual is Khushal Jadhav who’s family has alleged that he was murdered in his cell, while law enforcement claims he took his own life. According to sources within Sabarmati jail, Jadhav, originally from Lakhtar in Surendranagar district and residing in Amraiwadi, had been incarcerated for three years.

The accusation against Jadhav involved the alleged killing of a colleague in Amraiwadi during a dispute over a minor matter in 2020. Hitesh Rathod, a relative of Jadhav, expressed skepticism, stating, “We received a call from the prison authorities on Tuesday afternoon, informing us of his death by hanging. We find it hard to believe he committed suicide because he had three other inmates with him, and we doubt that no one would intervene. This appears to be a case of either murder by fellow inmates or by the guards.”

Rathod also stated that Jadhav’s body was sent to Asarwa Civil Hospital for a postmortem, and the family insisted on filing a murder complaint first. DeshGujarat
