Gandhinagar: Gujarat Police today shared the details of an ongoing task under VISWAS project and stated that over 10,500 CCTV cameras are being installed in Surat city, Vadodara city and other 52 municipalities and inter-state entry-exit points at present.  Followi

7,000+ CCTV Cameras at around 1,200 Traffic Junctions, Entry-Exit points and Other Strategic Locations have been installed in 41-places including 34-District Headquarters, 6-pilgrimage centers and Statue of Unity (SoU), Ektanagar under the VISWAS Project. 34-‘Netram’ (District Level Command & Control Centre) have been established in each of the Districts and Safety and Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) has been established. 10,000 Body Worn Camera and 19-Drone based Camera Systems have been integrated with CCTV Camera System. TRINETRA: Integrated Command & Control Center (i3C) has been set up in the Police Bhawan Campus, Gandhinagar integrating CCTV Cameras, Body Worn Cameras and Drone Camera System installed. The video footages from the system and another sources can been analyzed for the purpose of investigation using sophisticated Video Analytics. The system is being used extensively by the Police for traffic management, enforcement and detection of criminal cases.

2. 10,500+ CCTV Cameras are being installed in Surat City, Vadodara City, 52-Municipalities and 80 Inter-State Entry-Exit Points to further strengthen the security system of the State. These CCTV cameras will be installed at important entry-exit points of Municipalities, strategic places, congested places, major traffic junctions, etc. with the facilities like Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system for monitoring suspicious activities and CCTV Camera will be installed to issue e-Challan against traffic violators and monitor other security related activities (Fixed Camera). Apart from this, CCTV cameras are being installed at the entry-exit points of the borders with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DDNH) to prevent inter-state criminal activities.
3. 54-Cities have been divided into 4-Clusters and work has been assigned to different agencies for implementation. The following are the agencies:

4. It is worth mentioning that, with the help of Safety and Integrated Traffic Management System installed under VISWAS Project, more than 7,300 cases of different types mentioned below have been helped in detection:

During the period 2018-22 detection rate has been increased 8% in cases of All Theft; 10% increase in the detection rate of Robbery cases; 7% increase in the detection rate of House Theft cases and 1% increase in the detection rate of Dacoity cases.

CCTV Cameras have been used effectively in Traffic Management and Enforcement during more than 5,500 such events in the state as given below:

During the period 2018-22 the number of road accidents has decreased by 16%, injuries due to road accidents have decreased by 13% and deaths due to road accidents have decreased 5%. VISWAS Project has been recognized at National and International level and Awarded by Various Organizations in Different Categories like National e-Governance Gold Award (2022), FICCI SMART Policing Award (2022), Skoch Gold Award (2022), Project Management Institute (PMI) USA (2021), Smart Cities India Award (2021), Governance Now India Police Award (2020) and Skoch Gold Award (2019)

5. A meeting with all the agencies and other stakeholders was held on 15/12/2023 to Kick Off the Project. Mr. Narasimha Komar, Addl. DG of Police (Administration) and Chairman of VISWAS Task Force informed “The photo based security system created under VISWAS Project has been extremely useful for the State Police. It is being used extensively for prevention, detection and investigation of criminal cases and traffic management and enforcement. The expansion of the network of CCTV Cameras to Tire-II/III Cities and Inter-State Borders will lead to ‘force multiplier’ effect and enhance the capabilities of Gujarat Police manifolds.”
