Railways approves Rs 497 crore Elevated Road Development Work at Surat Railway Station

Surat: Work for making a multi-modal transportation hub (MMTH) at Surat railway station is going on in Surat. In latest, an elevated road has been approved by the Ministry of Railways at a cost of Rs 496.98 crore at the Multi Modal Transportation Hub with 63 percent funding from the Ministry of Railways.

The special feature of the elevated road is that its total length will be 5479 meters. The construction of this road will save time of passengers and also save fuel. Also, Varachha Road, Lambe Hanuman Road and Ring Road will be directly connected to the railway station through this road. People will have direct access to the newly constructed commercial hub. It will be convenient for passengers to reach the platform. Due to the construction of this corridor, the movement in the east and west sections of Surat city will become very easy.

Out of the project cost of Rs. 496.88 crore, the railway will bear 63%, i.e., Rs. 313.03 crore, with the state government covering the remaining 37% of the cost. This elevated road will feature two road overbridges of 90 meters and 40 meters. The elevated corridor is being constructed because it is not possible to add additional lanes on Lambe Hanuman Road due to Surat Metro Tunnel work. MMTH will also have a multi-level car parking and other facilities. A pick-up and drop-off zone will also be established. DeshGujarat
