GOLYMPIC unveils Master Plan for SVP Sports Enclave; Ring of Unity with diameter of 150 mtr to come up

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Olympic Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (GOLYMPIC), overseeing the development of the Sports Enclave for the city’s 2036 Olympics bid, unveiled its master plan at the Helipad ground in Gandhinagar on Tuesday.

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, nestled along a 2-km riverfront, is poised to feature an international dining district, commercial and retail facilities, outdoor play areas, and more. Instead of making substantial investments in new facilities for the Olympics, authorities plan to utilize the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre for international broadcasting operations and as the primary media center. Estimated to cost around Rs 6,000 crore, the Sports Enclave, covering 236 acres in Motera and adjacent to the Narendra Modi stadium, is designed to accommodate 20 sports disciplines within a built-up area of 93 lakh sq ft.

The enclave will also host a Ring of Unity (RoU), presenting a diverse array of art and cultural activities, from events and festivals to temporary stalls and markets. The ‘Ring’ will have an overall diameter of 150 meters, incorporating green spaces, walkways, an open plaza, and a lookout deck facing the river. Spanning over 4 acres, the plaza itself can accommodate up to 5,000 people, with temporary structures capable of hosting an additional 12,000 when required. Moreover, it will be conveniently accessible from the metro stations.

Tenders for all six proposed complexes at the Sports Enclave have been issued, signaling the commencement of construction by 2027-28. The completion of the complexes and other facilities is expected by 2030. However, residential buildings, planned for development closer to the Olympic dates, may not align with this timeline.
