Another death due to severe throat injury caused by sharp lethal kite thread in Gujarat

Vadodara: One more person died due to injury caused by a lethal kite string(thread) in connection with the Kite flying festival in Gujarat. A four-year-old male child died after his throat was slit by the sharp string of a kite in Mahisagar district today on the first day of the two-day long Kite flying festival which is also known as Uttarayan or Makarsankranti.

A four-year old child, Tarun Machhi, was on his way home on his father’s motorcycle when a kite string slashed his throat near Boradi village on Sunday afternoon.

A number of non-fatal injuries due to sharp kite threads are reported across Gujarat on the first day of the kite flying festival. While the kite flying festival takes place during 14th and 15th of January every year, the incidents of deaths due to sharp threads are reported well ahead of the festival, as the kite enthusiasts start flying kites weeks before Uttarayan.
