Closure of 500m segment of Ashram Road; AMC invites public input
January 20, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has invited public input before permanently closing the 500m segment of Ashram Road, extending from Cargo Motors Road to Batrisi Bhavan near RTO. The initial decision to close the road on December 15 was postponed due to the incomplete status of the alternate route and the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, which took place from January 10-12.
This closure is attributed to two major projects: the Vadaj Ramdevpir Tekra slum rehabilitation initiative and the development of the Gandhi Ashram Memorial and Precinct.
Initially, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) planned to close the 500m stretch through a police notification. However, with the completion of the alternate road, the civic body has invited the public to submit their suggestions and objections by February 17 to avoid potential legal hurdles.
In place of the closed stretch, a new 18-meter-wide road has been constructed starting from the Cargo Motors building. DeshGujarat
