Mufti Salman Azhari sent to 5-day police custody in Modasa hate speech case

Arvalli: Muslim cleric Mufti Salman Azhari has been remanded to five days of police custody in a hate speech case in Modasa. This is the third time the Mufti has been sent to police custody in just 10 days.

This arrest of Mufti comes in the third case of provocative speech in Gujarat, filed in the Arvalli district this time over his speech on 24 December last year. It is learned that Mufti is booked under the Atrocity Act in this complaint in Modasa.

The earlier two cases against Mufti were filed in Junagadh and Kutch in Gujarat. Mufti was sent to a day-long remand after his arrest in the Junagadh case, and he is on a 3-day remand in the Kutch case. On Sunday, that remand ended, and today the local civil and criminal court in Modasa gave 5 days’ remand of Mufti to Arvalli Police.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Gujarat Police is also probing into the funding of all three trusts run by Mufti Salman Azhari.

Mufti was picked up by Gujarat Police from his Ghatkopar-based residence in Mumbai amid high drama of his supporters blocking the road and gathering in large numbers at a local police station on February 6th. DeshGujarat
