Ahmedabad-Udaipur Railway Line likely to be 100% electrified by April

Gandhinagar: 100 percent electrification of the Ahmedabad-Udaipur railway line is likely to be completed next April. If this target is achieved on time, the Railways will be able to run a lot of long distance trains from Mumbai and elsewhere to Udaipur via Ahmedabad.

At present, only diesel run trains can be operated on the Ahmedabad – Udaipur route due to the lack of 100 percent electrification on this stretch.

According to sources in the railways, the Dadar-Ahmedabad train, which presently runs between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, is likely to be extended to Udaipur from May 1st. This train stays in the yard for 17 hours after it arrives in Ahmedabad. Several leaders of Rajasthan have made representations before the Railway Minister to extend this train to Udaipur so that travellers from Mumbai may get direct rail connectivity to Udaipur and therefore the region of Mewar. A representation was also made for starting the Vande Bharat Express train connecting Ahmedabad to Udaipur once electrification on this line is completed.

In other news, the railways has decided to errect fencing on stretches of Ahmedabad – Daungarpur – Udaipur railway route where cattle accidents are frequent. DeshGujarat
