Chaitar can’t enter Narmada; Court junks his plea seeking change in bail conditions

Narmada: A sessions court on Monday rejected a plea from Chaitar Vasava, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat Working President and Dediapada MLA, seeking to amend the bail conditions preventing him from entering his home district of Narmada, where his Assembly constituency is located.

Principal Sessions Judge NR Joshi upheld the prosecution’s argument that, given modern technology, Chaitar, who is also INDI bloc’s Lok Sabha candidate from Bharuch, could campaign via electronic media without being physically present in the constituency.

The court expressed concerns about potential law and order issues if Chaitar entered the jurisdiction of Narmada district, noting that his wife had also been granted bail and could campaign on his behalf. Additionally, the court cited recent provocative statements made by Chaitar, suggesting a risk of influencing or intimidating witnesses if he were allowed to campaign in Dediapada and Sagbara areas.

The court order, spanning eight pages, highlighted Chaitar’s request to alter bail conditions and the prosecution’s opposition, emphasizing the serious nature of the allegations against him, including extortion and assault on a forest officer. Chaitar, along with seven others, was accused of abusing and assaulting forest officials, as well as firing a round in the air to intimidate the officer, according to an FIR lodged at Dediapada police station. All accused have been granted bail in the case. DeshGujarat
