Gandhinagar: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Ketan Inamdar, who offered his resignation from the State Assembly today, has withdrawn it after a meeting with state party chief C R Patil. Inamdar had sent his resignation to the speaker through an email, which was not accepted.
According to the latest developments, after the resignation move, Inamdar was called to the state capital for a meeting with Gujarat BJP Chief C R Patil. BJP leaders Pappu Pathak and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja were also reportedly present at this meeting. Later, satisfied after this meeting, Inamdar decided to withdraw his resignation.
Inamdar had sent his resignation to the Speaker of the State Assembly via email. In his media interviews, Inamdar has expressed his belief that the party should maintain respect for old-time party members who have sacrificed their time and resources for the party. He stated that the party should consult with these old-time party workers and uphold their respect. Inamdar clarified that he offered his resignation from the post of MLA, but he remains committed to the party and will continue to work hard to ensure the party’s victory in the elections.
Inamdar said he is not upset with ticket distribution, emphasizing that local MP Ranjanben Bhatt is like his older sister and the best candidate, and he will do everything to ensure her grand victory. He clarified that he offered his resignation from the post of Member of the Legislative Assembly, not from the BJP. Inamdar said, that expanding the party and inducting people from other parties is fine. Still, it should not be at the cost of old-time party men and their respect because they are the makers of the party.
Inamdar emailed his resignation at 1.30 am to the Speaker. He said he has voiced the feelings of the old-time party to party leaders several times. And finally, he decided to resign. Inamdar had emailed his resignation, while technically, it is mandatory for any MLA to visit the Speaker of the State Assembly in person to step down from the post of MLA.
In the past also, Inamdar has publicly voiced his dissent against the party and its decisions. He remains confident in his ability to win the Savli assembly seat independently, as he has done so in the past. Consequently, he does not concern himself greatly with how the party might respond to his outspoken criticisms of the party line.
Inamdar had in the past also submitted a resignation, which was not accepted. The party had consulted him, and he withdrew his resignation at that time. As a senior MLA, Inamdar is aware of the rule that any MLA needs to schedule an appointment with the Speaker and personally visit the Speaker with a resignation letter for it to be accepted. The Speaker then asks the MLA whether the resignation has been tendered without any pressure, through their own wish, and if it is their final decision. Without these technicalities being fulfilled, the resignation letter is not considered valid.
Inamdar was believed to be upset with the induction of Kuldipsinh Raolji into the party and the party’s decision to assign him the responsibility of an assembly seat. Dabhoi MLA Shailesh Mehta (Sotta) has meanwhile supported Inamdar’s opinion that old party men should be respected. Sotta said it is however party’s internal matter and the party would resolve it amicably.
