Surat: After the massive fire tragedy at TRP Game Zone in Rajkot, which claimed 28 lives, the Surat civic body initiated a major crackdown on Tuesday, sealing 168 establishments, including coaching centers and clinics, for lacking fire clearance.

Over 150 officials from the Surat Municipal Corporation’s fire department initiated the sealing process for units without a no objection certificate (NOC).

Previously, the SMC had sealed 10 game zones, fun fairs, and magician shows. Furthermore, the ISCON Mall, Valentine Multiplex, Mamta Cinema, and Krishna Cinema were directed to shut down on Tuesday.

Additionally, six schools were sealed, including Seventh Day School, S B Mahale School, and Indira Gandhi Memorial School in the Limbayat area, as well as Jay Sardar School in East Zone A, Valsaly School in Dabholi, and Akshar School in Singanpore.

Yogi Classes, Tana English Academy, Takshashila Vidyapith, Om Teaching Point, Education Point, and Krupa Nidhi classes were also among the sealed entities. Two diamond training institutes, O P Diamond Coaching and Crystal Diamond Class, faced similar action from SMC authorities.

Among other closures were two hospitals, Rekha Hospital on Rander Road and Medicare Hospital in the Rander area, and three restaurants: Amiras Hotel at Sarthana Jakatnaka, Rio Carnival Restaurant in Simada area, and GJ-5 Garden Restaurant in Sarthana. Additionally, six temporary structures on Gaurav Path of West Zone were sealed.

This decisive action followed a joint meeting of top officials from various government departments, including city municipal commissioner Shalini Agarwal, city police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut, district collector Sourabh Pardhi, superintendent of police Hitesh Joysar, and managing director of Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd Yogesh Chaudhary, among others.

Additionally, Surat District Education Officer Bhagirathsinh Parmar circulated a notice to 1,796 schools, emphasizing adherence to safety protocols. DeshGujarat
