Kalaben Delkar clinches Dadar & Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha seat for BJP
June 05, 2024
Dadar & Nagar Haveli: Kalaben Delkar, who switched from Shiv Sena (UBT) to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, secured victory for the BJP in the Dadar & Nagar Haveli (DNH) Lok Sabha seat with a lead of 57,584 votes on Tuesday.
Kalaben garnered 1,21,074 votes, surpassing Congress candidate Ajit Mahala who received 63,490 votes.
“We have fulfilled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trust in us. The voters of DNH have shown overwhelming support for us. While we have addressed some public issues, others remain unresolved. Our focus now is to address these issues solely for the benefit of the public,” Kalaben stated after her win.
As the widow of the late Mohan Delkar, an independent MP who tragically passed away by suicide in February 2021, Kalaben had previously won the bypoll from the same seat on a Shiv Sena ticket, winning by over 51,000 votes.
However, a month prior to the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha poll dates, Kalaben and her son Abhinav Delkar had met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before joining the BJP. – DeshGujarat
