Surat: A postgraduate student at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) medical college was arrested on Thursday for violating prohibition laws after being found intoxicated in his hostel room during an unannounced inspection on Wednesday night. An empty alcohol bottle was also confiscated from his room.
The inspection was conducted by the college dean and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Deputy Commissioner Rajendrakumar M Patel, following the suspension of another postgraduate student earlier that day. During the inspection, Dr. Mugendrasingh Nalvaya was found consuming alcohol in his room in Block C. The inspection team promptly instructed SMC security personnel to apprehend him and inform the police. Varachha police officers arrived and detained the intoxicated PG medical student from the forensic science department, seizing an empty liquor bottle in the process.
A complaint was filed at the Varachha police station under Section 66(1)(b) of the Prohibition Act.
“We took action to set an example. Illegal activities will not be tolerated. Surprise inspections will continue, and those found in violation will face consequences,” stated SMIMER dean Dr. Deepak Howale. DeshGujarat
