Major fire in fabric godown in Danilimda; Over 15 fire tenders at scene

Ahmedabad: A major fire erupted at a fabric godown following an explosion in the Danilimda area of the city. Currently, 18 fire brigade vehicles are attempting to control the fire using water cannons.

A fierce blaze broke out at around 8 in the morning in the godown of Kohinoor Creation Private Limited located in the Danilimda area. The godown primarily stores packed clothes, and the fire intensified due to the nearby leafy cover. Being adjacent to a residential area and more than 10 other godowns, the fire reportedly spread to neighboring structures. Thick smoke was visible up to one kilometer away. Due to heavy smoke generated by the fire, over 100 people have been rescued from the area after complaining of coughing. As of no causality has been reported in the fire incident.

Over 18 fire tender vehicles and 70 fire tenders have been deployed to extinguish the flames. The narrow roads and leafy sheds surrounding the area have posed challenges in controlling the fire. Firefighters have also utilized a fire robot in their efforts to douse the blaze.

At first, fire brigade personnel could not reach inside as the fire had spread so fiercely. Hence, the help of a robot was utilized. The Ahmedabad Fire Brigade used a robot with advanced technology to extinguish the fire. Robots were operated continuously for two hours in an effort to control the fire.

Two tempos were also in the godown, one of which was pulled out by the fire brigade team in a half-burnt condition, while the other tempo was engulfed in flames.

In-charge Chief Fire Officer Jayesh Khadia said, “Around 8:30 in the morning, a fire broke out in a cloth godown located behind the old cattle market in Danilimda. Fire brigade personnel along with 11 large fire tenders started dousing the fire. At present, more than 70 percent of the fire is under control. The operation is ongoing. Whether the premises had a valid fire NOC and equipment will be determined after the investigation. At present, firefighting is still underway. DeshGujarat
