Bardoli: Bardoli Police have arrested Ansar Nurmohammad Khatik (resident of Baben, Kali Basti) over allegations of extorting people in the name of the Right to Information Act. The accused was on the run after being booked for extortion by Bardoli Police.
Last month, Bardoli Police had booked Ansar Khatik, Ibrahim Dawood Meman, and his son Mohsin Meman in four cases of extortion. They were facing allegations of sending notices to builders over various issues to extort money. The builders had initially paid money to them to avoid any nuisance, but later the accused increased their demands and approached the police.
As soon as they were booked, the accused went underground. While Ibrahim and Mohsin got anticipatory bail in all cases, Ansar Khatik also obtained anticipatory bail in all offenses. However, another section was added against him in the fourth complaint by Natu alias Bhuriya Rathod under the Atrocity Act, for which Khatik was arrested when he was in Bardoli for the procedure of anticipatory bail.
