‘Uninterested’ Surat advocates pass resolution against proposed shifting of court complex outside city

Surat: The Surat District Bar Association (SDBA) passed a resolution on Tuesday stating that lawyers are “uninterested” in relocating to the proposed new site of the Surat court complex at Jiav Budhiya village, located on the outskirts of the city. The proposed complex location is around 10 km from the present court complex and is in close proximity to the Sachin GIDC area.

Chief Justice of Gujarat, Sunita Agrawal, visited Surat on June 22nd and met with registered lawyers from the Surat District Bar Association and Surat City Advocate Association at the current court complex. Chief Justice Agrawal instructed the SDBA members to pass a resolution during its general board meeting and submit a report if they opposed moving to the new site.

Following the Chief Justice’s instructions, the SDBA convened a meeting on Tuesday where lawyers unanimously decided against the relocation. Present at the meeting were SDBA President Uday Patel, Vice President Abhishek Shah, Secretary Ashwin Patel, and Treasurer Anupam Patel.

The resolution cited pollution problems and the area’s proximity to industries as reasons for rejecting relocation. Additionally, the site falls under hazardous and buffer zones. DeshGujarat
