June 29, 2024
Surat: Western Railway’s vigilance team arrested two people on Thursday for hacking the railway e-booking website irctc.co.in to generate hundreds of tatkal tickets. Among those tickets, 40% were belonging to VIP quota and so it is suspected that there could be involvement of others apart from the main accused Rajesh Mittal.
Rajesh Mittal allegedly hacked the IRCTC website by using softwares, orchestrating an online fraud where he reportedly sold tickets amounting to Rs 4.7 crore. Tickets worth Rs 2.88 crores were created in 12 accounts using software named Gadar.
The scam on the face is being labelled as an online fraud and site hack. But it is learnt that Mittal ran a daily business worth lakhs of Rupees by getting VIP tickets approved. Questions are being raised whether he had some connections into Railway offices.
The tickets gained through online fraud were sold at a premium of two to ten thousand rupees per ticket, especially for North India trains. Mittal’s call details are being checked to get more details in the course of the investigation.
Umra Police Inspector JP Patel said they requested a five-day remand, but the court granted one day. The police have sent six laptops and a phone to FSL for investigation. The investigation is underway to determine the number of touts involved, the software used, the total value of tickets, and other potential ticket mafias linked to Rajesh Mittal. DeshGujarat
