CBI arrests CGST inspector in Rajkot

Rajkot: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended an inspector from the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department in Rajkot on Thursday. The inspector was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2.50 lakh.

The CBI had filed an FIR against the accused, Naveen Dhankar, posted as an inspector in the Rajkot CGST office on July 3rd. The complainant, Viren Shah, the manager at Mishwa Corporation, claimed that his boss received a call in April from the accused, who allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh over supposed illegal activities at the firm and threatened to cancel the company’s GST identification number (GSTIN) if the bribe wasn’t paid.

On July 1, Dhankar reiterated his demand, prompting Shah to file a police complaint the following day. Later, the CBI, in a trap set up on Thursday, caught Dhankar red-handed while accepting the Rs 2.50-lakh bribe from the complainant.

Searches were conducted at Dhankar’s premises in Rajkot, leading to his arrest. The inspector will be presented in a special CBI court in Ahmedabad today. DeshGujarat
