Vadodara: A 77-year-old woman passed away on Thursday during treatment for injuries sustained when a building slab collapsed late Wednesday in Jambuva.
The collapse occurred around 8 pm on Wednesday while Jena Kadam, who lived alone, was having dinner. It happened on the third floor of block 23 of the housing society built under the VMC housing scheme. Neighbors rushed to her aid, finding her unconscious and trapped under the debris. The senior citizen was rushed to SSG Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.
The colony, built in 2012, has been flagged as structurally unstable since 2019. Just a few days ago, the civic body had issued eviction notices to 358 families residing in the colony.
“The VMC has served us notice to vacate our homes, but we have nowhere else to go,” remarked a neighbor. DeshGujarat
