Surat Airport likely to halt night-time flights for 6 months during PTT construction

Surat: The Surat International Airport is likely to suspend flights operations during night time for six months starting October 2024. The block is expected to affect international flight schedules. Sources suggest that preparations at the airport are underway to connect a Parallel Taxi Track (PTT) to Runway-04 towards Dumas.

The construction of the PTT, costing Rs 70 crores, aims to connect Runway-04 to enhance flight operations without disruptions. A 615-metre runway section towards Vesu has been blocked due to safety concerns from nearby high-rise buildings.

The 24-hour flight operations began at Surat Airport in November last year. In that context, the airport’s civil department has asked the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), a type of block, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM from October 2024 to March 2025.

This NOTAM will inform pilots about changes and ensure safe take-offs and landings. International flight movements are likely to be impacted once the NOTAM takes effect. Flights to Dubai and Sharjah will probably be rescheduled to morning departures instead of night. DeshGujarat
