7 dead in Sachin building collapse; Builder booked

Surat: Seven people have lost their lives in the building collapse that took place in the Paligam area of Sachin on Saturday. Five of the deceased are natives of Madhya Pradesh. The Sachin GIDC police have registered a complaint against the builder and the property manager.
The five-story building in Sachin’s Paligam area collapsed on July 6 around 3 pm. The rescue operation continued from yesterday afternoon until this morning. Currently, the debris is being cleared, and the authorities have not detected anyone else under the debris.
Divisional Fire Officer Krishna Modha told the media that seven bodies have been recovered, and the rescue operation has been completed. The debris is being moved, and there is a negligible chance of anyone being trapped inside.
The police have registered a case against Raj Rasik Kakadia, Ramilaben, and Rasik Kakadia, the owners of the building. Additionally, a crime has been registered against Ashwin Vekaria, who managed the building. Although the building was dilapidated, six houses were rented out, and five to seven families lived in the building. Reportedly, the building lacked BU (Building Use) permission.
One woman, Kashish Sharma (20), is undergoing treatment after being rescued. The people who died are Hiramdi Kevat (40, Madhya Pradesh), Abhishek (35, Madhya Pradesh), Vrajesh Hiralal God (50, Surat), Shivpujan Shokhilal Kevat (26, Madhya Pradesh), Anmol aka (Sahil) Chamar (17, Uttar Pradesh), Parvej Shokhilal Kevat (21, Madhya Pradesh), and Lalji Bambholi Kevat (40, Madhya Pradesh).
The building, constructed in 2017, collapsed in 2024. The cause of the collapse is not yet clear, but it is being reported that the dilapidated building collapsed due to heavy rain. DeshGujarat
