Gujarat government replaces the word Thakarda with Thakor in OBC list
July 27, 2024
Gandhinagar: Gujarat government’s Social Justice and Empowerment department has in a resolution signed on Friday decided to replace the word Thakarda with Thakor in the Other Backward Class(OBC) list.
The department has asked to make this replacement across all government records. Lok Sabha member from Patan Bharatsinh Dabhi who is Thakor by caste had made representation before the State government, demanding such replacement.
In a decision signed by joint secretary GP Patel, it is said that the word ‘Thakarda’ in records was found derogatory and insulting by the people of that community and therefore Thakarda word is replaced with Thakor in the Other Backward Class(OBC) list. This chnage will reflect in all government records including the school leaving certificates, revenue and panchayat documents and OBC certificates. DeshGujarat
