K Kailashnathan appointed as Lt. Governor of Puducherry; Appointments of 9 new Governors also announced

New Delhi: The President of India has appointed retired Gujarat cadre IAS officer K Kailashnathan as Lt. Governor of Puducherry with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. This announcement was made late in the evening on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trusted officer K Kailashnathan retired after 11th extension as Gujarat Chief Minister’s Chief Principal Secretary last month. Kailashnathan is Chairman of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd and also supervising Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram memorial project in Gujarat. With his appointment as Lt. Governor, the post of the Chairman of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd will go vacant.

In other development, the President of India accepted the resignation of Banwarilal Purohit as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Union Territory of Chandigarh.
 
The President of India is also made following appointments of Governors:
 
1. Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde appointed as Governor of Rajasthan.
 
2. Shri Jishnu Dev Varma appointed as Governor of Telangana.
 
3. Shri Om Prakash Mathur appointed as Governor of Sikkim.
 
4. Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar appointed as Governor of Jharkhand.
 
5. Shri Ramen Deka appointed as Governor of Chhattisgarh.
 
6. Shri C H Vijayashankar appointed as Governor of Meghalaya.
 
7. Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, Governor of Jharkhand with Additional Charge of Telangana, appointed as Governor of Maharashtra.
 
8. Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Assam, appointed as Governor of Punjab and has also been appointed as Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
 
9. Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Sikkim, appointed as Governor of Assam and has also been given additional charge of the Governor of Manipur.
 
Appointments will take effect from the dates they will assume charge of their respective offices.
It’s worth noting here that the ternure of Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat has expired on 22 July this year. Also the term of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel is ending on July 29.
