Ola, Uber drivers claim to be on strike at Ahmedabad airport, ask for higher fare offline from passengers

Ahmedabad: The passengers have to face difficulties on arrival at SVPI airport here for last one week as the private app based taxi drivers claim to be on strike and cough up multi fold fare outside the purview of app based operator companies such as Ola, Uber and Meru. On Monday evening the app based taxi drivers gathered in 500 to 1000 numbers over various demands.

Around 1,000 taxi drivers gathered outside the airport area in protest. The passengers had to board auto rickshaws and pre-paid taxis as the drivers of app based taxis went on strike. The Ola, Uber drivers would ask passengers to come offline for a trip for multifold high fare. They would tell the passengers – ‘Sir you cancel Uber booking, I will take you to your destination for such and such fare offline’.

The app based services’ drivers claimed that over 500 taxis function at the Ahmedabad airport through private passing(White number plate) and they don’t have to pay toll tax, inter-state charges and insurance etc. The drivers claimed that such cars have only provision of third party insurance and therefore in the case of road accident, the passengers would face problems.

The drivers were demanding Ola, Uber, others to offer them more money. All the aggregate car service called out a total strike at Ahmedabad airport from 24th July. The drivers have apart from this, various other issues with app based operators regarding car insurance, commission rate, alleged high handedness and more.

Meanwhile Ahmedabad Airport has in a passenger advisory stated: Some app-based taxi services at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad are likely to be impacted today. Passengers are advised to use other available options to and from the Ahmedabad airport.  DeshGujarat
