Gandhinagar: A survey for construction of Daman – Vapi – Nashik (210) new railway line was completed but the project had low traffic projections and therefore it has been shelved.

The railway ministry in the ongoing session of Lok Sabha replied – ‘A survey for construction of Daman-Vapi-Nasik (210 km) new railway line was completed. The project has low traffic projections.’

The reply further pointed out – ‘Vapi is an existing railway station only 11 km away from Daman. Further, Diu is approximately 10 km away from Delvada railway station,
which is connected to Una through existing rail network.’

The ministry further stated – ‘sanctioning of Railway projects is a continuous and dynamic process of Indian Railway. Railway Infrastructure Projects are taken up on the basis of remunerativeness, last mile connectivity, missing links and alternate routes, augmentation of congested/saturated lines socio-economic considerations etc. depending upon liabilities of ongoing projects, overall availability of funds and competing demands.’ DeshGujarat
