Doctor booked for brandishing weapon during candle march in Amreli

Amreli: The local police have registered a case against a doctor after he publicly brandished his licensed weapon during a candle march in the city on Friday night.

The candle march was held in Amreli by the intern and junior doctors of Shantabaa Medical College in protest of the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata. As the march was passing through Rajkamal Chowk, Dr. Govind Gajera publicly brandished his licensed weapon and urged the doctors to arm themselves for self-protection.

According to a report filed at Amreli City Police Station, Dr. G.J. Gajera was addressing a gathering around 9 p.m. regarding the rape and murder of the trainee doctor in Kolkata when he publicly displayed a revolver. His actions violated the terms of his license by creating public fear and were an act of public nuisance. Dr. Gajera has been booked under sections 353(1)(b) and 270 of the Indian Penal Code, Section 30 of the Arms Act, and Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act.

Dr. Gajera told the media that he displayed his licensed weapon during the rally to encourage intern doctors to carry weapons for their safety. He stated that everyone should carry weapons for protection, predicting that security concerns will only increase in the next five years. Dr. Gajera emphasized that, given the increasing attacks on doctors, measures must be taken for self-defense. DeshGujarat
