Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) has suspended the licenses of four specialist doctors in the state after they were found guilty of malpractice and negligence during a special hearing. Three of the doctors received a one-month suspension, while the license of a fourth doctor was suspended until he appears before the council for a hearing.
According to GMC officials, the council received a complaint from an insurance company alleging that Vadodara-based gynecologist Dr. Vilyesh Ghetia admitted pediatrician Dr. Manali Ghetia to his hospital, Dwenz Multispecialty Hospital, as an inpatient. Dr. Manali was posted at the community health center (CHC) in Por, Vadodara. After the accusations of forging a doctor’s signature to claim insurance money were found true, the licenses of these doctors were suspended for a month.
In another case from Himmatnagar, a patient accused Dr. Pallav Patel, an orthopedic surgeon at Poojan Orthopedic Hospital, of leaving a piece of gauze in a patient’s leg after surgery. The patient provided video evidence, which was confirmed as genuine after forensic examination, resulting in a one-month suspension of Dr. Patel’s license.
In a complaint received by GMC, Dr. Pravin Vainsh, an orthopedic surgeon at Veraval Civil Hospital, was accused of misconduct. However, despite being summoned four times, Dr. Vainsh failed to appear before the council to present his case. As a result, his license has been suspended under the IMC Regulations, 2002.
