68 feeders, 365 transformers shut in flood-hit Vadodara; Watch MGVCL briefing

Vadodara: The city has been ravaged by floods due to heavy rains in the last few days and the overflowing of the Vishwamitri River. Due to the floods, electricity supply has been affected in several areas of the city.

Addressing the power supply problem, an MGVCL officer said, “Due to heavy rains and the overflowing of the Vishwamitri River, many areas have been cut off from electricity. Several feeders that were affected were restored by Tuesday morning. However, as the Vishwamitri water entered the city on Tuesday, for safety reasons in areas where feeders have submerged in floodwater, a total of 68 feeders and 365 transformers have been shut down.”

“We have been receiving several messages to switch on the feeders in some areas, but due to safety reasons, we cannot switch them on as a lot of transformers and feeders are underwater, and that level is also rising.”

“In another update, water entered the panel room of the Vidyut Nagar Substation on OP Road in the city around midnight yesterday, causing it to shut down. Around 27 feeders from this substation provide power supply to Akota, Diwalipura, and nearby areas. After that, at around 4 AM, the Atladara substation was also closed as water reached inside it, and feeders from that station have also been shut. As of now, the water level is rising in both substations, but we are ready to switch on the feeders from these stations as soon as the water recedes,” the MGVCL officer added.

The officer also stated, “I would like to appeal to the people residing in the areas where power supply has been halted that the power supply has been cut due to the inundation of feeders and transformers to prevent any mishap. As the water starts receding, we will restore the power supply after all testing processes and precautions.”

“With around 7,000 meters being in basements, we also have doubt that they will also be affected, so as the water recedes, we will carry out the replacement process for these meters. Teams in the 23 subdivisions are working, and where the power supply is ongoing, individual complaints are also being attended to. Since the last two days, the entire MGVCL staff has been working as much as possible, and we assure you that as the water recedes, our first priority will be to restore power, especially in hospitals, etc.” the MGVCL officer further said.  DeshGujarat
