Vishwamitri level in Vadodara further down to 33 ft just before 6 am; Overtopping ends at Kalaghoda bridge

Vadodara: The water level of Vishwamitri river at Kalaghoda bridge in Vadodara has come down to 33 ft at around 5.45 am. The river water which was overtopping the Kalaghoda bridge last evening has gone down below the bridge. Though the bridge is not reopened for traffic, some vehicles could be seen passing over the bridge as the overtopping ended.

The level of water of river Vishwamitri at its peak here was 37 ft. Just before midnight yesterday it came down to 34.50 ft. Though Vadodara Municipal Corporation(VMC) website showed the level at 34.50 at midnight down from 35.25 after over 24 hours, the Mayor and Standing Committer Chairman said it was actually 34 ft. VMC website has not updated the data and even in the morning at 7.30 it showed 34.50 ft level. However on the site visite before 6 am, a scribe spotted it was actually 33 ft level and overtopping had ended.

Receding level of Vishwamitri is good news for the city which has been waterlogged for over two days and facing power disconnection and food and drinking water supply issues due to flood. However lack of updated data on VMC website is a matter of concern for the citizens who have saved their mobile phone battery to get informed about the actual level of Vishwamitri.

Waterlogging situation which is in 70 percent portion of the city will go only after the water level goes below 31 ft level. At 29 ft level, the city will come back to life. DeshGujarat
