Gujarat govt hikes stipend of intern and resident doctors across govt and GMERS colleges

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has decided to increase the stipend for interns and resident doctors, effective from 1st April this year. Interns and resident doctors working in government and GMERS medical colleges in medical, dental, physiotherapy, homeopathy, and ayurveda courses will benefit from this decision. Graduate course students, interns, postgraduate students, and super-specialty course resident doctors across 6 government and 13 GMERS medical colleges will benefit from the decision. DeshGujarat

 

Meanwhile Ahmedabad based BJ Medical college’s resident doctors are preparing to go on strike against the hike which according to them is not enough. They said the hike must be 40% every three years. The last hike was effective from 1st April 2021 after which three years have passed. The hiek must be 40% with effect from 1st April 2024 and not just 20%. It’s worth noting that resident doctors went on strike just a few days ago over a rape/murder case of junior doctor in West Bengal. The doctors who are preparing to on strike also claimed that contrary to hike after every three years, the government has fixed the tenure of the latest hike for five years. DeshGujarat
