PM Modi likely to launch Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro train service next week
September 10, 2024
Gandhinagar: The long-awaited Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro train service is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 16. After flagging off the Metro service, the PM is also likely to travel in the Metro from the state capital, Gandhinagar, to Ahmedabad and get off at the Metro station near Gujarat University to attend another public meeting at GMDC grounds.
This marks his first visit to Gujarat since his victory in the Lok Sabha elections. During the visit, Modi is likely to inaugurate the Motera-Gandhinagar Sector 1 metro route, a 20-kilometer stretch connecting Motera in Ahmedabad with Sector 1 in Gandhinagar.
Phase II of the Ahmedabad Metro covers a total of 28.26 kilometers, including a 22.84-kilometer section from Motera to Mahatma Mandir and a 5.42-kilometer stretch from Mahatma Mandir to GNLU-GIFT City. The Mahatma Mandir to GIFT City segment remains under construction, with two stations still incomplete, and is not expected to open before the end of the year.
Trial runs for the Motera to Gandhinagar Sector 1 route were completed in February. This Phase II corridor consists of 22 stations, with 15 already completed. While the segment between Motera and Sector 1 is ready for operation, the remaining route to Mahatma Mandir is progressing and aims for completion by year-end. Initially planned to be operational before the Lok Sabha elections, the project faced delays but will soon offer an alternative travel route between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. DeshGujarat
