Inside the Ahmedabad – Bhuj Namo Bharat Rapid Rail; 10 unique features spotted on first trip
September 16, 2024
Bhuj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off the country’s first Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, also known as the Vande Bharat Metro, connecting Ahmedabad and Bhuj in Gujarat. Launched today, the train is indigenously built under the Make in India initiative, modeled on the Semi High-Speed Vande Bharat Express. From the outside, the train features a saffron-gray color scheme, with pilot cabins similar to those seen in the Vande Bharat Express. This train is expected to be widely used for local and intercity travel.
Here are some key features of the newly unveiled train, set to operate between Bhuj and Ahmedabad:
Divyang-Friendly Toilets: Similar to the Vande Bharat Express, which is equipped with bio-vacuum toilets, this train offers Divyang-friendly toilets, ensuring that people with disabilities can use the facilities without difficulty. The modular design includes automatic hand dryers.
Space for Medical Emergencies: To accommodate medical emergencies, the train has designated space where stretchers can be placed, allowing patients to be transported safely.
Mobile Charging: While this cost-effective train doesn’t provide charging points at every seat, it offers designated charging areas in the gallery, similar to what is seen in airports.
Separate Reserved Coaches for Women: The train has two dedicated coaches reserved for women, enhancing safety and convenience.
Passage Between Coaches: As the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail is built on the Vande Bharat platform, the vestibules between coaches are fully sealed, improving air conditioning efficiency and creating a dust-free environment and ensuring hassle free movement from one coach to another.
No More Chains: Unlike older trains that used chains to stop in case of emergencies, the Namo Bharat Rail has a button encased in a glass box that can be pressed to halt the train. If pressed without a valid reason, the person responsible can face a fine of up to Rs. 1,000 and imprisonment of up to 1 year.
Talkback Unit: In emergencies, passengers can press the button to activate a talkback unit, allowing communication with the train’s pilot. If deemed necessary, the driver will stop the train.
Passenger Capacity: The train can accommodate 1,150 seated passengers, with room for an additional 2,058 standing passengers. The total passenger capacity is 3,208. Its fare is economical, making it a convenient option for long-distance travelers.
Economical Fare: The minimum fare is set at Rs. 30 (inclusive of GST), with a fare of approximately Rs. 445 for the journey from Bhuj to Ahmedabad.
Fully Air-Conditioned: The Namo Bharat rail is a fully air-conditioned train, designed for the comfort of everyday travelers. Both driver cabins at each end of the train are also air-conditioned. Additionally, the train is equipped with continuous LED lighting and wide panoramic windows for an enhanced travel experience.
High Speed: Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, designed similarly to the Vande Bharat Express, can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h. However, its speed is limited to 120 km/h because it will operate on tracks that can only accommodate speeds of up to 110 km/h. DeshGujarat
