Jailed Ganesh Jadeja wins in Gondal Nagrik Sahkari Bank polls

Rajkot: BJP MLA Geetaba Jadeja’s son, Jyotiradityasinh Jadeja, also known as Ganesh, who is currently in jail for allegedly attempting to murder a Dalit man and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) leader, won a seat on the board of directors of Gondal Nagrik Sahkari Bank (GNSB) in Rajkot district’s Gondal town on Monday.

The election for 11 board seats at GNSB took place on Sunday, but Ganesh could not cast his vote due to his incarceration in Junagadh district jail for allegedly assaulting a Dalit leader. Vote counting began late Sunday evening and continued overnight, with results announced on Monday morning.

Cooperative leaders aligned with the BJP dominated the GNSB elections, winning all 11 seats. Incumbent chairman Ashok Pipaliya received the highest number of votes, polling 6,327 among 23 candidates. Ganesh, aged 25, garnered 5,999 preferential votes, ranking third among 17 candidates competing for eight general constituency seats.

Ganesh is the second member of the Jadeja family to be elected to GNSB, following his father, Jayrajsinh Jadeja, a former three-time Gondal MLA.

Ganesh’s mother, Geetaba, received another ticket for the 2022 Assembly polls and retained her position. Jayrajsinh is currently out on bail. Ganesh was arrested on June 5 for allegedly assaulting Sanjay alias Chandu Solanki. DeshGujarat
