Sabarkantha: A major accident occurred early this morning near Himmatnagar, in which seven people lost their lives on the spot and one person was injured after an Innova car crashed into the back of a trailer truck on the highway.
All eight passengers in the Innova were residents of Ahmedabad and were traveling from Shamlaji to Ahmedabad. The accident was so severe that the front side of the Innova was completely shattered, and the bodies of the passengers were trapped inside. Rescue teams had to use gas cutters to extract the bodies from the wreckage.
The deceased have been identified as Chirag Ravibhai Dhanwani (28, resident of Kailashraj Heights, Kubernagar, Ahmedabad), Rohit Sureshbhai Ramchandani (25, Kubernagar, Ahmedabad), Sagar Nareshkumar Udani (22, Kubernagar, Ahmedabad), Govind Lalchandbhai Ramnani (28, Kubernagar, Ahmedabad), Rahul Prahladbhai Moolchandani (23, Kubernagar, Ahmedabad), and two others named Rohit Shirvani and Bharat Keshwani, both residents of Kubernagar, Ahmedabad. The bodies have been moved to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Rahul Moolchandani came from Africa for only 10 days and was scheduled to return on Sunday. He was studying and working in Africa, so after arriving in Ahmedabad, he met all his friends and planned to go out with them at night.
The sole survivor, Honey Shankarlal Totwani (23, Kubernagar, Ahmedabad), is receiving treatment at Himmatnagar Civil Hospital. Honey has filed a complaint at Himmatnagar A Division Police Station, which states, “On Tuesday around five o’clock in the evening, my friends Rahul, Govind, Rohit, Sagar, Rohit, Chirag, and Bharat gathered in Kubernagar. Rahul had come from abroad, so there was talk among us about going somewhere. All the friends decided to go to the Rajasthan side, and Rohit Ramchandani brought his friend’s Innova car. At 9:30 in the night, all the friends got in the car and left for Rajasthan, with Rohit driving.
Around midnight in Rajasthan, we found a hotel for an overnight stay and left the hotel at 5 o’clock in the morning to return to Ahmedabad. Rohit was driving the car at full speed when we were coming from Shamlaji. Around 6 PM, our car hit the back of a trailer near Himmatnagar.
In the accident, I sustained serious injuries to my legs, and my friends were also injured. People on the road came and pulled us out of the car, and I unlocked my phone and reported the accident to my father, Shankarlal. After that, I was brought to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital via 108, where I am undergoing treatment. When my father came to the hospital, I asked him about my friends, and he told me that they had died due to serious injuries in the accident.”
Upon receiving the report of the incident, a convoy of Himmatnagar police rushed to the scene. Police investigations revealed that the Innova, bearing license plate number GJ01RU0077, was speeding from Shamlaji. The condition of the sole survivor is critical, and he has been shifted to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital for treatment. His father arrived in Himmatnagar from Ahmedabad following the accident.
DySP A.K. Patel confirmed the details of the accident, stating that the crash occurred between an Innova and a trailer on the road from Shamlaji to Himmatnagar this morning. The Innova rammed into the trailer from behind. DeshGujarat
