Another police complaint filed in case involving journalist Mahesh Langa

Gandhinagar: The Hindu newspaper’s senior journalist Mahesh Langa who is in judicial custody (jail) in connection with GST scam case, is now booked by Gandhinagar Police for  related sections of Bharatiya Nyay Samhita.

The fresh case is pertaining to leakage of documents and information from the headquarters of the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) which functions under the Gujarat government. It is reported that Langa in garb of being a journalist would procure the documents and details from GMB and would not use them for journalistic purpose but would supply to third party. The complaint has been filed under Bharatiya Nyay Samhita sections 303(2), 406, 316(5), 61(2) and Prevention of Corruption Act sections 7(a), 8(1), 12, 13(1) and 12(2). It means the complaint also involves the sections pertaining to theft and breach of trust. The complaint is against Langa and unknown persons and officials of GMB. Police have not opened the FIR copy  for public access on FIR portal as the marked as “case is sensitive”. Police have been tightlipped over this case involving the journalist from start, possibly due to involvement of big names including top officers. Six teams of Gandhinagar Police raided GMB office in Gandhinagar since Monday. Enforcement Directorate(ED) may question top IAS, IPS officers in this case.

The Times of India has quoted a senior police officer saying Langa, in connivance with various officers of GMB, took away various crucial documents of national importance about ports in Gujarat. The offence was carried out over months during the first half of this year. Langa shared critical information from thes documents with various people for his personal financial gains.

News agency Press Trust of India (PTI) has quoted a senior official saying “during the investigation, the Ahmedabad Police recovered some official documents of the GMB from Langa’s possession. Since these documents are government property, the GMB officials approached us and filed a complaint against Langa and an unidentified employee of the GMB(who gave him documents).’
