AMC approves Rs 216 crore project for stormwater lines in Vasna, Vejalpur

Ahmedabad: The city civic body has approved a Rs 216 crore project to address waterlogging issues at 10 locations in the Vejalpur and Vasna areas of the city. This decision was made in a recent meeting of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s water and sewerage committee, where two proposals were approved.

The first proposal involves laying a stormwater drain line from Makarba Police Headquarters, crossing the Fatehwadi Canal to the Sabarmati River, at a cost of Rs 36.27 crore.

The second proposal focuses on installing stormwater drains using micro-tunneling techniques. These drains will extend from Manekbag to APMC, from Jaydeep Tower to Malav Talav, and from Vasna Barrage downstream to Fatehwadi Canal, with an estimated cost of Rs 180.17 crore.

During the 2024 monsoon season, the number of waterlogged areas in the city increased from 125 to 157, with Vejalpur being particularly affected. The AMC’s new stormwater projects aim to resolve these recurring issues in the most impacted wards. DeshGujarat
