MICA student stabbing accused cop sent to 10-day remand until Nov 25

Ahmedabad: Police constable Virendrasinh Padheria, who was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing MICA student Priyanshu Jain to death in a road rage incident, has been remanded to 10 days of police custody after being presented in court today.

The public prosecutor, on behalf of the police, had requested a 14-day remand. However, the Ahmedabad rural court approved a 10-day remand, extending until November 25. The prosecutor argued in court that custody and interrogation of the accused were necessary, stating that despite his knowledge of the law, the accused committed the crime. The motive behind the murder needs to be investigated. The court was presented with 10 points, after which the police requested a 14-day remand.

Priyanshu Jain, a second-year MICA student, was stabbed by the accused during a road rage incident in the Bopal area of the city on November 10. The incident unfolded when Jain and his friend, Prithviraj Mahapatra, were returning to the MICA campus on a bike after visiting a tailor. Padheria’s speeding car nearly hit them, prompting Jain to shout at him. The confrontation escalated when Padheria chased them for 100 meters and fatally stabbed Jain with two knives. Following an extensive search involving 10 police teams and over 100 officers, accused Padheria was traced to Sangrur, Punjab, and arrested. DeshGujarat
