November 14, 2024
Ahmedabad: The state police chief, Vikas Sahay, today had a telephone conversation with Pankajbhai Jain, the father of the deceased MICA student who was killed in a road rage incident, and expressed his condolences over the murder.
During the call, DGP Vikas Sahay assured the father of the deceased youth that, although the accused is a police officer, he is still a criminal and will be treated as such by the Gujarat Police. Strict action will be taken against the accused officer, and the entire case will be charge-sheeted in a very short time.
Expressing regret that the crime was allegedly committed by a police officer, the top cop assured the family of the deceased that they would receive swift and fair justice.
In another development, DGP Sahay addressed police personnel and officers from across the state, ranging from constables to police commissioners, today via KY Band at the Gujarat Police Training Academy. During the address, he referred to the Bopal incident and issued strict instructions to all police officers and personnel.
Sahay instructed that if any police officer in the state engages in criminal activities or gets involved in such acts, it will not be tolerated. If any act is committed by the police that tarnishes the respected name of ‘Gujarat Police,’ which the citizens hold in high regard, strict action will be taken against them. Any police personnel found involved in criminal activities will face stringent measures immediately.
Three days after the fatal stabbing of Priyanshu Jain, a second-year MICA student, during a road rage incident in Ahmedabad, police arrested head constable Virendrasinh Padheria for the murder on Wednesday. Padheria, who had joined the Sarkhej police in March, was on sick leave when the incident occurred on November 10. He was later traced to Sangrur, Punjab, where he was arrested after an extensive search involving 10 police teams and over 100 officers.
The incident unfolded when Jain and his friend, Prithviraj Mahapatra, were returning to the MICA campus on a bike after visiting a tailor. Padheria’s speeding car nearly hit them, prompting Jain to shout at him. The confrontation escalated as Padheria chased them for 100 meters and fatally stabbed Jain with two knives. Police sources revealed that Padheria had a criminal history, including a suspension in 2017 for running a con call center. DeshGujarat
