12 southbound trains from Surat to run at 120 kmph, cutting travel time by 1 hour

Surat: Indian Railways has completed upgrades on 741 kilometers of single track in the Konkan region, enabling 45 major trains to operate at speeds of 120 km/h. The new speed limit will significantly reduce travel time, allowing passengers to reach their destinations faster. For instance, the journey from Surat to Goa and South India will be shortened by about an hour, with timings varying by station.
The speed increase applies to trains with LHB coaches along the entire 741-kilometer stretch from Roha in Maharashtra to Thokur in Karnataka, up from the previous speed of 70-95 km/h.
This route, a vital part of the Konkan Railway along India’s west coast, has long been limited by winding, hilly terrain. However, recent track upgrades have raised the maximum speed to 120 km/h. Among the 45 upgraded trains, about a dozen travel from Ahmedabad, Okha, and Gandhidham to Surat via Goa, using the Roha-Thokur section in South India. The Railways have instructed various zones to adjust train timings, impacting several Konkan Railway stations.
