Addressing a press conference, Joint Commissioner of Police, Manoj Nimman, said, “Two incidents took place in the Karelibaug area. The first incident involved a fight in Mehtawadi, in which three people were injured. The injured individuals went to SSG Hospital for treatment without informing the police. After some time, the next of kin of the injured and other locals gather at the hospital. During this time, the deceased, Tapan Parmar, was drinking tea in the canteen when one of the accused, Babar Pathan, left the emergency ward and attacked Tapan with a knife. Tapan was immediately taken for treatment but succumbed to the stab wound within half an hour.”

“Two cases have been filed: one under Section 307 (attempt to murder) at Karelibaug police station, and another for murder at Raopura Police Station in connection with the incident that occurred at SSG Hospital. Additionally, a complaint under the Atrocity Act has been filed, as the victims involved in both cases belong to Scheduled Castes,” the senior police official added.

On Monday morning, the family of the deceased, along with local residents, gathered outside the Karelibaug police station to protest, demanding justice. Tapan’s grieving mother expressed her anguish, stating, “I wanted to see my son married after our house was built. Now, my wish remains unfulfilled. Babar must be hanged.”

According to the details of the case, around 9:30 PM on Sunday, Dharmesh Patel and his friends, including Divyang alias Bittu Parmar, Dhaval Makwana, and Mitesh Rajput, were standing on the Mehtawadi bridge when Vikram alias Vicky Parmar arrived, covered in blood. Vikram informed them that Babar had stabbed him in the stomach and chest. While attempting to take Vikram to the hospital, Babar returned with accomplices and attacked again, injuring Dharmesh Patel in the hand. The group managed to rescue Vikram and take him to Sayaji Hospital for treatment.

Later, Mitesh Rajput, along with Tapan Parmar, the son of a former BJP councilor, and other friends, rushed to the hospital to support the injured. At around 12:15 AM, Tapan and Mitesh went to the hospital canteen for tea. Around 1 AM, Babar, who was present at the hospital with his brother-in-law Wasim and Wasim’s wife, launched a fatal attack on Tapan near the canteen. Tapan succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed in the chest and abdomen.

Tapan’s father, Ramesh Parmar, criticized the police for their negligence, stating, “Babar was brought to the hospital in a police van. How did he manage to obtain a weapon? Why wasn’t he thoroughly checked? My son was innocent and had no enmity with anyone.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Panna Momaya confirmed that an investigation is underway with the help of CCTV footage and forensic evidence. She also confirmed that Babar has a history of criminal activities and is involved in other assault cases.
