Surat Police’s Anti-Narcotics Unit gets Drug Detection Analyzer worth ₹15 Lakh

Surat: The recently launched Anti-Narcotics Unit of the city police has been allocated a drug detection analyzer worth ₹15 lakh. This kit allows for the collection and on-site testing of a person’s saliva, enabling the police to determine within just one minute whether the individual has consumed drugs.
The Surat city police have been running the “No Drugs in Surat City” campaign for the past four years, targeting drug mafias while also conducting public awareness programs to prevent the youth from falling into drug addiction. Last Sunday, the Anti-Narcotics Unit was launched under the supervision of the Special Operations Group. This unit has been allocated an anti-narcotics kit, also known as a drug detection analyzer, worth ₹15 lakh. The Narcotics Cell has distributed this kit to all major cities in the state. The mobile, rapid drug screening instrument, made by a foreign company, is portable and can be used at any location. The kit can detect drug consumption within 6-8 hours of use and uses single-use cartridges, which are replaced after each test.
If there is suspicion that an individual is addicted to drugs, the police will collect a sample of the person’s saliva. Once the sample is inserted into the machine, the results will be available in just 60 seconds. The machine will display either a positive or negative result. If the result is positive, the police will send the sample to the FSL and initiate legal proceedings. DeshGujarat
