Pakistani minor boy held off-Porbandar coast in 2022 reunites with parents

Rajkot: Thanks to the efforts of the district collector of Rajkot in Gujarat, a Pakistani teenage boy was reconnected to his parents after two and a half years.

A minor Pakistani boy was nabbed on 12 January 2022 off the Porbandar coast along with other Pakistani fishermen in a Pakistani fishing boat. An offence of coastal border violation was filed against him, and he was sent to judicial custody at the zonal observation home in Rajkot by the Juvenile Justice Board of Porbandar. On 25 August 2022 he was convicted.

After the sentence of two and a half years, deportation was ordered for the boy. Accordingly, he was taken to the Indo-Pak border by the Rajkot district collector office, the Social Justice department of the Gujarat government, and the Gujarat Police at the Wagah border. However, the boy’s parents didn’t turn up to take him.

Later the district collector and other higher officials contacted his parents, and the boy was again taken to the Atari border and handed over to his parents. The boy spent 31 months in Indian jail and during the course learnt to speak Gujarati, yoga, and some English. DeshGujarat
